Reading Obsession

I have a secret obsession with books. And not just any books but a certain genre of books. I am obsessed with young adult paranormal/science fiction novels. Up until a few years ago I never would have even looked at this genre of books. Now I can’t get enough of them. I blame Twilight. Yes, I read them, and was instantly hooked on all things vampire. I even went against the Jane Austen loving part of me and read Mr. Darcy Vampyre (vampire version of pride and prejudice… it was ok).

I also blame The Hunger Games for this new and somewhat ignominious obsession. The trilogy was—of course—wonderful and left me with the opinion that if two YA sci-fi book series were good, then surely there were more out there that were equally as good. Thus the start of the new addiction. I am not alone in this obsession though. My sisters are equally addicted to young adult novels. And of course my 16 year old niece is also obsessed with the genre.

Here are a few of the books that have egged on my obsession.

I AM NUMBER FOUR// PITTACUS LORE

Loved this book. The story line was intriguing and instantly pulled me in from the first few pages. I am excited to see the movie Friday night. I am going with my sisters, and my niece (and most likely a theater packed full of 12-16 year olds) to the Imax showing.

I am also really looking forward to the release of the second book. I believe that it is planned for it to be trilogy.

FALLEN SERIES// LAUREN KATE

Ok so these aren’t necessarily the best written books, but they were interesting and addicting enough that I am anxiously waiting for the third book to come out so that I can see how the story ends. It is definitely a bit of an odd story though.

MATCHED// ALLY CONDIE

Absolutely loved this book. The concept behind the story was thought–provoking and very reminiscent of the novel The Giver (one of my all time favorite book, definitely a must read!). The characters in Matched were likable and believable. Unfortunately the second book will not be available until November of this year and the third and final in the trilogy will not be available until November of 2012.

Disney has purchased the screen rights for the book, but there isn’t a production timeline set yet. It will be an interesting book to see on the screen.

Right now I am currently reading:

This is Halloween!

October has gone by so fast!! can’t believe that tomorrow is the first day of November! Halloween was great this year. My party with my family turned out great. My sisters Monica and Alison helped to make the food great and we all had a great time eating, visiting and watching scary movies! We watched several goosebumps movies, which the kids really liked and then later that night a few of us watched The Birds (such a classic). Unfortunately I didn’t take ANY pictures at the party! While I wish that I would have taken some, it was nice to just enjoy the party and relax (originally I was going to set up my light stands and backdrop and do studio photos of everyones costumes…next year!).

Yesterday was a pretty busy day. I went with my sister’s Monica and Alison to Woodland park Zoo in the morning and stayed there until the afternoon. Every year the zoo has a special Halloween event. They give the animals pumpkins and pumpkin treats… they call it a Pumpkin Smash. It was very rainy while we were there, but it was fun to see all of the animals. I got some great shots of the gorillas and several other animals. I haven’t edited them yet, but when I do I will post them on here.

As soon as I got home from the zoo I had to rush off to the church to decorate a room for the Halloween activity that was being held there that night. Each family in the congregation decorated a room in the church building and after dinner the children went trick or treating from room to room. It was so fun to see how everyone decorated their rooms, and to see all of the cute halloween costumes. It was a great activity. I hope they do it again next year!

Well, as I am writing this all of the trick or treaters have come and gone. We had a good number this year. In fact, we gave out every single piece of candy this year!

All in all it has been a great Halloween season! I am already excited for next year!
